Safesurge Inspection Technologies Pvt Ltd and Work Microwave have joined hands to bring Microwave based On-Line Moisture Analyzers in the country to provide Food, FMCG, Paper, Oil or any other industry that requires a real time Moisture Analysis for their products. We are immensely excited and proud to say that it will strengthen our Inspection Division portfolio.

Application
Examples

WORK Microwave’s sensors use electromagnetic fields to characterize different material properties. Inline sensor applications of microwave sensors include the detection of moisture, residual moisture, mass or density in a wide range of materials.

The utilization of microwave frequencies between 500 MHz and up to 65 GHz have been demonstrated which makes it possible to choose an application-specific optimum frequency range. In combination with a high-speed measurement capability of up to 10,000 measurements per second, the sensors are a perfect fit for demanding in-line applications.

For many applications in the pharma, paper, textile, food, packaging and petrochemical industries, WORK Microwave’s sensor technology and solutions have successfully been integrated. However, the range is not limited to those and individual solutions can be engineered. An overview of already proven implementations is given here:

Water in Oil

A microwave sensor is suitable to measure water content in oil for petrochemical applications, to detect long-term accumulation of water in oil or to implement a process water control.

New
Developments

WORK Microwave’s Sensor & Measurement division is continuously expanding its scope towards new radio frequency (RF) sensor technologies and products for inline sensor applications.

The innovations are the result of self-driven projects or cooperations with partners in industry and academia. A current development based on the microwave transmission method is outlined below:

Many production lines demand for inline monitoring of water content in the product, but cannot provide a direct contact to it. Contacting the product may lead to defects or irregular quality.

To account for this problem, a contact-free radar type moisture sensor (RS-Sensor) is currently in development in addition to the existing split resonator (SR-Sensor) approach. The RS-Sensor allows for higher distances of up to 15 cm to the product.

The antenna and electronics are mounted at one side of the product while on the other side a simple metallic reflector is sufficient.

The electronics generates an RF signal that is emitted by an antenna towards the product. The RF signal passes through the product, is reflected at a metallic surface and passes the product again, before it is received by the same antenna. The signal is coupled out by a directional coupler and lead to a receiver port of the electronics. Data processing is performed including a time-gate approach to suppress unwanted reflections. The moisture value of the product is derived by the amplitude and phase change of the signal. Dynamic distance variations between the antenna and the product during production do not impact the measurement result.
